Face is the latest series of wall objects by Studio Mehdi Mashayekhi, where wood and light merge into layered sculptural forms. Each piece is composed of three layers: a handcrafted wooden base with an integrated light source, a laser-cut mask that acts as an abstract filter, and a fine veneer surface that creates a play of glow, transparency, and shadow.
What makes these works unique is their dual identity: when unlit, they appear as subtle wooden wall sculptures; once illuminated, they transform into vivid portraits that respond to space and perspective. This creates a tension between craft and technology, function and poetry.
The Face series will be launched for the very first time during Dutch Design Week 2025 in Eindhoven, from 18 to 26 October. The presentation will take place at the Schellenfabriek, as part of Something’s Event.
