The small totem can be seen as an abstract representation of lost heritage and destroyed architecture. While their forms don’t directly resemble buildings, there’s an echo of architecture in the way they stand—like remnants of something that once was but is now gone. They speak to the fragility of cultural monuments, of homes and cities that have fallen to conflict and occupation. But in their abstraction, they go beyond mere loss. They become symbols of transformation, a reminder that nothing ever stays the same.

Choub (2024)
Choub (Farsi for wood) reflects immigrant’s migration journey, exploring adaptation without losing one’s core identity. Migration demands new relationships and adjustments, yet values and cultural roots remain intact. Through wood—a rigid, unconventional material for garments—Mehdi symbolizes the migrant’s integration process. Just as he reshapes wood while preserving its essence, migrants adapt while maintaining their identity. This work blends art, technology, and craftsmanship, challenging perceptions of materiality and belonging.
